A solid field of 32 showed up to race the Swamp Classic Women’s Road Race in Micanopy, Fl. Unfortunately, there was a crash in the first of three laps. We hope the racers involved did not sustain serious injuries. The attacks initiated primarily by DelaFina, WCC and Stradalli on the second lap were neutralized by the activity at the site of the first lap crash. It was clear that nothing was going to get away, and with five km to go, DelaFina formed a nice leadout train at the back of the field. And some point, we had all four riders lined up right behind each other. The hill with three km to go resulted in the usual reshuffling of the peloton, and Antje guided the train to the front. Magda jumped on Madison’s wheel and came in second, making race winner Madison work hard for the win. There was quite a gap to the other racers. Sharon was also able to profit from the leadout and won the cat 3!  It was good see another solid women’s turnout. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Antje and Magda also did the TT in the afternoon, where they came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

The crit next day was hard and furious. For the women’s race, we had Magda, Maria and Antje. It was fast and furious from the start. Most of the time, Antje chased down attacks from Stradalli. Magda suffered a puncture in her rear (which incidentally let to a nice spur of sealant on Kristin Lasasso’s glasses (we hope you got it off again!), but was able to get back into the race. Antje had left her legs somewhere keeping everything together and left Magda to sprint where she got fourth place. Maria, who had been busy organizing the whole Swamp Classic as President of UF’s cycling team, came in 5th in cat 4, which was also her second race of the day!
